House On Fire
By Sheree La Puma-Watson
Why
must I live
in a house on fire,
powerful, intense,
detonating my life from the inside.
Stinging,
charring,
tracking every step like a dog
through the woods.
Fervid with desire, yet
insubstantial,
bred with frivolity in mind.
Windows,
windows popping,
windows cracking,
windows within windows,
and you all try to peek,
you all want to see
them fulminate.
Voyeur.
Gather your lustful
Illusions.
Move on,
cast no shadow,
no cool of night
on my house
of fire.
