“Aha! Moments”
I’d lived 52 years before discovering “the science of laughter.” Didn’t even know there was a science. Who dedicates his/her life to dissecting one of life’s great attributes: an ability to snort/spit/shriek? Then there’s the feel-good factor: a brief, transcendent high without side effects.
It has a name, this science, “gelotology.” Say it with me now. JELLO-TALL-OGGIE. Well, something like that anyway.I laughed freely/often/without regret before my youngest daughter gave me the look. You know, the one that says “Mom could you humiliate me any further?” I paused a little and laughed a little softer.
Now, I’m bright; can take care of myself. I adore my daughter and those eyes humbled me. I started to notice that I laughed first at jokes. Always!
I turned to Google for answers. There I learned about humor-processing pathways and AHA Moments. Seemed harmless enough.
This is how Mozart described his subjective cognitive.
“All this fires in my soul, and—provided I am not disturbed—my subject enlarges itself, becomes methodized and defined, and in the whole, though it be long, stands almost complete and finished in my mind, so that I can survey it, like a fine picture or a beautiful statue, at a glance…” —Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart
I decided that I had a supercharged brain and went to my daughter to share the “good news.” “
Her answer, “I do that too, but I delay laughing.”
AHA! So evidently her supercharged brain is running circles around mine and she has time to delay the laughter. Can’t catch a break as a mom sometimes.
Hope you had a great Thursday all.
